Hi Year 6,

My family and I left Melbourne for a 14 hour long flight to LA, I was extremly tired once we landed. I think I was suffering jet lag due to the time difference from Bengido to LA. There hour difference is 19 hours, so when it is 11:30am in Bendigo it is 6:30pm yesterday!!

On the 2nd day in LA we went to a theme park called "Six Flags Magic Mountain". It's sort of a Warner Bros (e.g Bugs Bunny mixed with Superman) theme park with heaps of roller coasters.I went on a couple of roller coasters, with my favorite being the Goldrush one. I think my Dad went on all the roller coasters!

On the 4th day in LA we flew out to Toronto ,Canada. There is a time difference here of another 3 hours. We got into Toronto at 5pm and it was already dark. Today in Toronto (2nd day) we walked all over, it was absolutely freezing, Dad said we must have walked about 10km in the cold!! Our walk took us through the Eaton Center which is a massive shopping mall. When we left the Eaton Center there were these people who just started singing, then more people joined in until there were about 10 people singing. It was excellent singing without instruments. Our next stop was at Queens park, there were chipmunks everywhere, black ones, grey ones even black ones with white tips on their tails!

At about lunch time we found ourselves at the Toronto University, it had very old buildings, I think they were about 200 years old. On our way home we went through Chinatown, there seems to be a China town everywhere!

Tonight we took a tour of the CN tower which is the 2nd tallest in the world standing at 554m. The CN tower held the highest building for 34 years until a higher structure was built in Dubai. The lift went up to the first observation deck at 22 km/h, it only took 58 secs to go about 340 meters. We started looking at the first level, the view was amazing, I didn't realise that Toronto was so big. We then went up another 100 meters to the sky pod which was only 100 meters from the top. It was actually very scary initially, but I got used to it. To finish of the visit we went down to the glass floor, it felt like you were walking on nothing. Mum took a photo of me lying on the deck to make it look like I was falling.

Hello to everyone! Having an excellent time and Ill write in again soon.

Part 2 - New York and Washington DC

Hi again from the USA!!

We left Toronto and drove to Niagara Falls. The Falls are pretty big and amazing. There was a big bunch of mist in the middle from the water so we couldn't really see the American side of the Falls. It was that cold that the little puddles on the rocks were frozen over!! We got a train from Niagara Falls to Yonkers near New York for the night. When we went through Buffalo there was heaps of snow on the ground. It was about 9 hours on the train so i did lots of reading. Then in the morning we got another train into New York.

we got to New York on Saturday 4/12 and it was really busy and absolutely freezing!!!!! There are so many people around on the streets. After we checked into the hotel, we went to the Empire State Building. We went up to the observation deck on the 86th floor and watched the sun go down. it was not as tall as the CN Tower but still pretty tall. It was very very very cold!! There was one side of the building that was really windy so we didn't take pictures from that side! After we left the Empire State Building we walked along 5th Ave and found ourselves in Times Square. It is very bright and very busy. So many TV screen billboards. Times square runs for about 8 city blocks (42nd st to 50th st), it also intersects with Broadway.

On Sunday we took a ride on the Staten Island Ferry which goes by the Statue of Liberty. That was really cool! The Staten Island Ferry holds about 600 people, but not that many people on a Sunday!! After that we walked along Wall St past the New York Stock Exchange where there is a big bronze bull. We pretty much wandered around the city for the afternoon taking in the sights and sounds of New York. We certainly got good at using the subway system!! On Monday we went to the American Museum of Natural History. That was pretty cool. It was made famous by the Night at the Museum movie. The Dinosaur hall was good with lots of skeletons. After that we walked back into the city through Central Park. We found ourselves back on 5th Ave and back into Times Square. Dad got tickets to see the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular. It was really, really cool. It featured the Radio City Rockettes who have been famous since the 1930's.They are really good dancers/tap dancers. We went to dinner after that at Applebee's and since it was mum's birthday they sang Happy Birthday. That was really funny!

On Tuesday we pretty much shopped and saw all the fancy stores at the top of 5th Ave, like Tiffany & Co. We went to see Mary Poppins on Broadway. The show was brilliant!

Today, Wednesday, we got a bus from New York to Washington DC. It took about 4 hours. When we got settled we tried out the Metro system and got to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum which was pretty cool. We saw the Wright Brothers actual plane, and Amelia Earhart's plane. There was lots of cool space stuff too. After we left there we walked up the 'Mall' which is a green patch that is bordered by museums and memorials. Capitol Hill is at one end, the Washington Monument is in the middle and the Lincoln Memorial is at the other end. This is where the big statue of Abraham Lincoln is that is in Night at the Museum 2 movie! Tomorrow we are going to have a look at the White House and will be flying to Orlando to get ready for Disneyworld!!!!

Until next time, be good!!!
